The business started in 1958 on Canal Street as a jewelry manufacturer for other companies and as a watch repair business. The quality of work being put out by Robert “Bob” Ramsey Senior, founder of what was then called “B & J Manufacturing Jewelers” and patriarch of the family that still owns Ramsey’s Diamond Jewelers, was quickly getting recognized in the industry. It was then that he decided to start selling his own jewelry designs. The business flourished, first with a new location in Metairie in 1972 followed by the addition of his son, Robert Junior and daughter Lori, truly making it a family business.

Throughout the 70’s, 80’s and into the 90’s, business continued to grow and they quickly stood out from the other jewelry stores in the area. In 1998, the brother and sister team decided to take a bold step and bring the business to the next level.

“The international marketplace for diamonds had changed,” Lori explains, “and there was a growing demand for custom designed jewelry created from loose diamonds and precious metals. They decided to take a singular focus on diamonds and shed the rest of their inventory. They opened a brand new space that could showcase all of their diamond necklaces and diamond earrings perfectly and most importantly, they took the time and expense to make sure that everyone who works for them has had the training and expertise that was needed when it comes to educating their customers on the diamond of their dreams.”
